One of my '5 a day'
I've just been to the local store to buy a tin of baked beans. A bold label on the side of the tin told me it's one of my '5 a day'.
What a bonus !
I only wanted it to make a sausage casserole go a little further. Sausages in a beefy tomato sauce with a tin of beans and two or three good glugs of Stokes Tomato Ketchup.
On other occasions if we want to add a smoky chilli twist to it, Stokes Chipotle Ketchup is a wonderful addition. But that's for this evening.
First, lunch - toast and a 'cuppa' soup enriched with a stir of our Award-Winning Ketchup, adding the real taste of Italian tomatoes to the re-hydrated powdered soup.
Retro comfort eating
Comfort food - it's not just for the children. There's nothing more grown up than a succulent fish finger sandwich, or as deliciously comforting as egg mayonnaise (in a sandwich or on a baked potato).
To really treat your baked potato to a top filling, finely chop some fresh herbs - coriander, tarragon, parsley - and fold them into a good helping of Stokes Real Mayonnaise then spoon it into your hot buttered spud.
And then of course there's the bacon
butty with our tomato or Bloody Mary Ketchup - proper comfort, the Stokes way.
Smoked or unsmoked bacon?
Personally I prefer my bacon smoked, but it's not for everyone. In a smoked bacon sandwich it has to be Stokes Tomato Ketchup. But with unsmoked bacon, Stokes Brown Sauce adds the tasty sensations of dates, black treacle and spices.
The Classic British Burger
You'll need:
- 500g British Beef Mince
- 4 Shallots, finely diced
- 2 tbsp (generous dollops) Stokes Classic English Mustard
- 2 tbsp Stokes Red Onion Marmalade
- 1 large free range egg yolk
- 25 g bread crumbs.
Mix together the beef mince, shallots, English Mustard, Red Onion Marmalade, egg yolk and breadcrumbs until well combined. Divide into 4-6 equal portions and shape into burgers. Cover and chill the burgers in the fridge for at least 30 minutes.
Heat a griddle pan until hot (or the BBQ!) and coat the burgers with oil. Cook for around 10-15 minutes, turning regularly, until cooked through, then top it off with a quality bun, mature cheddar cheese and a healthy spoon of Stokes Red Onion Marmalade. Or you could just have one of these beauties at Aubrey Allez (Leamington Spa).
Fish 'n' Chips
There are times when the taste buds scream out in their desperate need for fish 'n' chips.
Whether you have a take away or are lucky enough to have a 'dine in' fish shop nearby - like the Aldeburgh Fish & Chip Shop (pictured below) - it's time for soft white fish in crispy batter with fluffy chips.
You'll notice they serve Stokes Sauces in sachets - they truly know the meaning of great taste.
Whatever your comfort food, make it taste great with Stokes
