We celebrate National Fish & Chip Day on 7th June, in the week we remember the 75th Anniversary of the Normandy Landings.

Well, it's an interesting fact that, after landing, British soldiers identified each other by calling out "FISH", hoping for the friendly reply "CHIPS" ... such is the association of we Brits have with the foremost 'take away' meal - Fish 'n' Chips.

A statistic from the Federation of British Fryers is that this country consumes a massive 382 million portions of Fish & Chips a year. Chips were first married to battered fish as long ago as 1860.

Between the Wars there were 36,000 Fish & Chip Shops in the UK, which has dropped now to some 10,400 registered today.

What to you have with yours... ?
